Barossa Gas Project: Learn more

Friday 20th May marked a very important day for our Timorese colleagues as they celebrated the 20th anniversary of the country’s restoration of independence, when the country officially known as the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, gained its full status as a sovereign nation on 20 May 2002.

This year’s celebration was even more meaningful with the inauguration of the newly elected President, H.E. Sr. José Ramos Horta, who will govern the country from 2022-2027 following a landslide victory against incumbent President Francisco Guterres Lú-Olo.

The year 2022 also marks a very important and celebratory milestone for both the Bayu-Undan Joint Venture and Timor-Leste, as it signifies 20 years since the start of the Bayu-Undan project in 2002, which today provides significant revenue and economic benefits to the country and people of Timor Leste, as well as local employment and supplier opportunities.

We offer our sincere congratulations to our Timorese colleagues as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of the country’s restoration of independence!
