This Privacy Policy provides an overview of the personal information that Santos Limited, Santos NA Barossa Pty Ltd and their related entities (collectively “Santos”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) may collect when consulting with you in respect of our proposed activities under Environment Plans for the Barossa Gas Project. The Barossa Gas Project is a Santos-operated offshore gas and condensate project that proposes to provide a new source of gas to the existing Santos-operated Darwin liquefied natural gas (DLNG) facility in the Northern Territory.
Santos recognises the importance of your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. Santos is bound by and required to protect personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (“Privacy Act”).
Collection of your personal information
We collect your personal information from you, or a third party acting on your behalf, when you engage with us in relation to the Barossa Gas Project, such as:
- Contact and identity details – if we are in contact with you, we may collect details such as your full name, street address, postal address, email address and telephone number.
- Community, clan group or organisation details – if you are part of a community, clan group or organisation with whom we are consulting, we may collect details of the community, clan group or organisation that you represent, your First Nations heritage and other information that you choose to provide (including your preferred manner of consultation).
- Other information or opinions which identify you, or from which you are reasonably identifiable – we may collect your information, feedback or opinions including as to functions, interests or activities which may be affected by, or other relevant interests in, the Barossa Gas Project.
- Website interactions – if you communicate with us via our website in relation to the Barossa Gas Project, and/or register to nominate as a ‘relevant person’, we may collect your contact details and other information you choose to provide.
- Attendee images and videos – if you attend our consultation sessions, from time-to-time we may collect photographs and video footage of attendees.
We may also collect information through statutory, regulatory and other government processes, and from publicly available sources or databases if it is unreasonable or impractical to obtain the information directly from you. Some of the personal information we collect is considered sensitive information under the Privacy Act (such as information about your ethnic or racial origin, and your philosophical or religious beliefs or affiliations). We will ask for your consent to collect and handle your sensitive information, or in certain circumstances you will consent to our collection by providing or agreeing that a third party can provide your sensitive information to us.
Why we collect your personal information
We collect your personal information (including sensitive information) in connection with our Barossa Gas Project activities, including to:
- prepare and update environmental plans, reports or newsletters;
- send invitations to stakeholder events;
- record attendance at consultation sessions;
- record and respond to feedback;
- consult with you in connection with our current or proposed activities under relevant environment plans;
- understand your preference and behaviours including your preferred manner and content of consultations and communications with us;
- administer lease, licence and clearance procedures; and
- comply with our legal and regulatory obligations that apply to the Barossa Gas Project and our related activities.
If we cannot collect your personal information as described above, we may not be able to consult fully with you in relation to the Barossa Gas Project.
Who we may disclose your personal information to
We may disclose your personal information to:
- our third party service providers, such as mail house, security services, technology, professional and consultation services providers;
- our related entities, including Santos Offshore Pty Ltd;
- our Barossa Gas Project joint venture partners;
- government authorities or other statutory bodies, including the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA), where we are authorised or required by law to do so; and
- any other parties with your consent.
Overseas disclosure of your personal information
Due to the global nature of Santos’ operations and business, your personal information may be disclosed outside Australia, including to our related entities and third party service providers located overseas.
