Fresh Produce Development Project | Papua New Guinea

As part of our commitment to deliver positive outcomes in the communities where we operate, Santos is helping improve food security and income opportunities for Papua New Guinean farmers and their families.

A total of 16 local demonstration farms have been established where up to 80 young farmers have been taught new skills on sustainable agricultural practices to produce fresh vegetables.

Pimaga Rural Hospital solar mini-grid | PNG

The Santos Foundation in partnership with the US Agency for International Development and the Southern Highlands Provincial Health Authority is facilitating the provision of power to hospital staff and their families who live adjacent to the health facilities.

The installation of a solar mini-grid by the Santos Foundation has helped a Papua New Guinean hospital in the Southern Highlands to deliver health procedures 24 hours a day and ensure the safe storage of lifesaving treatments.

Servicing a population of approximately 20,000 people, the Pimaga Rural Hospital is now able to carry out medical treatments more reliably and safely. Access to reliable power provides lighting 24 hours a day in the maternity ward so that babies can be safely delivered at any hour of the day and incubators can be powered to care for premature babies. Powers facilitates safe storage of blood products and medicines and provides lighting in and around hospital grounds and staff housing, which improves safety at night, particularly for women. This has also aided in attraction and retention of staff.

Northern Territory Training Awards | Australia

Santos trainee and Darwin-based administrator Vanessa Williams won the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year at the 2024 NT Training Awards.

Following a career across retail, education and hair dressing, Vanessa embraced a new opportunity through Santos Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Entry Pathways Program.

Vanessa is a proud Aboriginal woman from the Tiwi Islands who completed a Supply Chain Operations traineeship with us at the Santos Darwin Supply Base, in conjunction with Programmed Training Services. Vanessa is now approaching the completion of a subsequent traineeship at DLNG in Business Admin with Santos, showcasing her dedication to ongoing learning.

“Seeing my family and friends’ children gain employment and traineeships in the oil and gas industry has been immensely rewarding, reinforcing my belief that everyone deserves equal opportunities for growth and success,” Vanessa said.

MOKUT Women Business Group | PNG

Santos is helping to provide economic opportunities to Papua New Guinean women with an initiative that will also benefit and to improve the health and nutrition of local families.

The Santos-supported MOKUT Women Business Group won the ‘Outstanding Women’s Contribution in the Resource Industry Award’ at PNG Resources Week 2024.

The business group and charitable initiative, which supports more than 200 women, teaches agricultural skills and delivers financial literacy training through its farms in the Moran and Kutubu regions, and also enables local women to earn a sustainable living from selling their farm produce, including eggs. We are proud to help grow this initiative which is making a difference in the lives of the women who are involved in the project.

Just transition |  Timor-Leste

Bayu-Undan has had a 20-year history of providing natural gas for customers across Asia, while supporting local jobs and injecting over $US25 billion into the Timor-Leste economy. Now there are plans for it to play a critical decarbonisation role by transitioning into a carbon capture and storage site – creating a potential new industry with ongoing employment opportunities.

This includes building on existing initiatives where in the past five years through Santos’ aim to deliver local jobs and training, the number of Timor-Leste nationals transitioning from semi-skilled roles to skilled positions has risen from 66 to 92.
