Victorian Gas Situation

In response to media queries, Santos Ltd confirms that gas from the South Australian Cooper Basin is being supplied by AGL to Victorian retailer Energy 21 through the interconnection recently completed between NSW and Victoria.

Supply of gas to Victoria commenced on Friday 25 September 1998.

Commenting, Santos Managing Director Mr Ross Adler said:

We are saddened by what has happened in Victoria and offer our support in doing whatever we can to assist. Unfortunately supply of gas from the Cooper Basin can only satisfy a small part of Victorias natural gas needs. However in regard to LP Gas supplies, Santos is able to supply LP Gas by road transport to Victoria from its Port Bonython plant in South Australia.

Santos is Australias largest onshore oil and gas company. It is the operator of the Cooper Basin joint ventures in South Australia and Queensland and is involved in supplying gas in all mainland Australian states. The Cooper Basin is located in north east South Australia and south west Queensland.
