Santos today announced the appointment of Ray Betros to the newly created position of Executive Vice President Technical.

In his new role, which reports directly to Santos Chief Executive Officer David Knox, Mr Betros will be responsible for driving technical excellence and performance throughout Santos. Mr Betros will commence with Santos in early January.

Mr Betros, 54, is currently Technical Director and Chief Operating Officer for the Asian, Middle East and African Regions at BG Group plc. In this role, Mr Betros is responsible for exploration, appraisal, project capture and delivery, and operations in the regions. His role includes technical oversight of all BG Group’s LNG projects.

During his more than 30 year career, Mr Betros has held senior positions with BG Group, BHP Billiton and Hoechst.

“We are delighted to secure someone of Mr Betros’ calibre for this important new executive role. Mr Betros’ experience in major LNG project development makes him ideally suited to drive Santos’ growth strategy”, Mr Knox said.

Mr Betros holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Process Plant Engineering from Monash University.
