East Spar Gas to Supply Proposed Cogeneration Project

Santos today announced that the East Spar Joint Venture (ESJV) had reached agreement for the supply of gas to a proposed cogeneration facility in Western Australia, following the signing of a Heads of Agreement with an entity of Fletcher Challenge Energy and Western Power Corporation. The Heads of Agreement is subject to the satisfaction of certain conditions precedent.

The Fletcher Challenge Energy and Western Power Corporation 50:50 joint venture, will be known as the South-West Cogeneration Joint Venture (SWCJV).

The SWCJV will own the cogeneration facility which will supply power to the Worsley Alumina expansion and customers elsewhere within the South West Interconnected electricity grid.

The agreement will see the ESJV supply natural gas to SWCJV at the rate of approximately 32 terajoules per day, commencing late 1999.

This agreement is in addition to the contracts with Western Power and Plutonic Operations Limited announced on 8 September 1997.

The participants in the East Spar Joint Venture are as follows:

  • Santos (BOL) Pty Ltd 45%
  • Ampolex (AOE) Pty Limited 35%
  • Apache Oil Australia Pty Ltd 20%
