Santos Vice President Eastern Australia James Baulderstone today addressed the Australian Domestic Gas Outlook 2013 conference in Sydney, where he spoke about the importance of natural gas to New South Wales’ ongoing economic prosperity.

Mr Baulderstone said prospective natural gas supply shortages in NSW could be avoided by the timely and balanced development of the state’s discovered reserves of natural gas.

Mr Baulderstone said that proven gas reserves in and around the Pilliga Forest near Narrabri in north west NSW – where Santos’ initial NSW investment is focused – could alone supply about 25% of the natural gas used by NSW homes, small businesses, major industries and electricity generators by as early as 2016-17.

Mr Baulderstone said Santos’ proposed Narrabri Gas Project could develop over 1400 petajoules of natural gas reserves in the region – the largest uncontracted onshore gas reserves in Australia – and deliver over 100 terajoules per day to the NSW market via a new pipeline connection to the existing Moomba-Sydney Pipeline.
