Santos made its first discovery in the Carnarvon Basin in 1984 and today, is well placed to leverage its established domestic gas hubs and strong portfolio position through uncontracted reserves and capacity to meet short and long-term demand.
In November 2018, Santos enhanced its position in Western Australia through the acquisition of Quadrant Energy, a leading Australian oil and gas company with a high quality portfolio of assets in the State.
Gas, condensate and oil from the John Brookes, Harriet and Spar-Halyard fields is piped to the Varanus Island processing facility where the condensate is removed and the raw gas processed. The sales gas is then transported to mainland WA via two 100-kilometre pipelines, where it is supplied to major mining and industrial customers. Oil and condensate are stored on the Island and transferred to tankers for direct export.
Gas and condensate from the offshore Reindeer field is transported to the onshore Devil Creek processing plant via a 105-kilometre pipeline. Sales gas is then compressed and sent to the WA domestic gas market.
Gas from the offshore Macedon field is piped to the Macedon Domestic Gas Plant near Onslow. Sales gas is then compressed and sent to the WA domestic gas market.
The Van Gogh and Coniston/Novara oil fields are serviced by the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, Ningaloo Vision, approximately 40km offshore north of the North West Cape.
The Pyrenees oil project, comprising oil from the Crosby, Ravensworth and Stickle fields and the Pyrenees Venture FPSO vessel, is stationed approximately 25km offshore north of the North West Cape.
Santos will continue to pursue near-field exploration opportunities to support its producing assets and build on its position as the leading supplier of domestic gas in WA.
However, the company has also had exploration success in the Carnarvon’s Bedout Sub-basin, with the Dorado and Roc discoveries, and in the Crown and Lasseter discoveries in the Browse Basin.
Santos in WA is a low-cost operator with capacity and reserves to meet short and long-term demand as it focusses on growing production and market share in the WA domestic market.
