In 2013, Santos initiated women empowerment programs in cooperation with local communities and the Madura Development Watch (a local NGO).
Santos’ operational areas in Indonesia are close to 15 coastal villages in Sampang and Sumenep in Madura, East Java.
Currently, there are seven small business groups, each with four to five women members, that have received in-kind assistance in the form of training, business advice and production equipment.
They are involved in producing fish crackers and fish paste, pastries, Muslim prayer attire and Madura batik.
