Building industry skills and knowledge is a core focus of the Santos business. We achieve this through scholarships, traineeships, cadetships, school programs and academic research support.
Santos committed $25 million over 17 years to establish the Australian School of Petroleum located at the University of Adelaide. This world class educational facility is the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere to combine the engineering and geoscience disciplines in one school. Santos’ contribution has provided for the Professor of Petroleum Engineering, construction of a purpose built facility and specialist equipment, while also supporting research activities and scholarships.
Santos is Foundation Partner with the Royal Institution of Australia (RiAus), a world-class institution dedicated to bringing science to people and people to science. Launched in 2009, Santos contributed $5 million to support RiAus in making an exceptional contribution to scientific debate and literacy in Australia while highlighting the importance of science in everyday life.
Monarto Zoo is the southern hemisphere’s largest open range zoo that exists to save species from extinction and connect people with nature. Santos supports Monarto Zoo’s conservation and land management efforts by funding traineeships and school based traineeships on site at Monarto.
The Annual Engineering Summer School is hosted annually by the not-for-profit organisation Engineering Aid Australia to provide a summer school experience to high school students interested in, and showing potential for a career in engineering. It encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students to stream into STEM related senior school subjects to enable them to be eligible for science-related degrees at university.
Santos provides scholarships for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students enrolled full time at the University of Adelaide in a course or degree relevant to the oil and gas industry.
This is Santos flagship program that provides development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to assist them to transition into the oil and gas industry, participate in study directly relevant to their discipline and work for up to a three year period alongside experienced industry professionals.
