Regional Communities

Supporting regional programs that enhance the lives of those who live close to Santos’ operations is core to our community investment program. Our focus is on major infrastructure investment, farming and agriculture, local events and support for regional sporting teams.

GLNG Roads Infrastructure

Santos and its partners on the GLNG project have committed $210 million to upgrade rural roads in the Maranoa, Central Highlands, Western Downs and Banana regions of Queensland. Many of these roads were severely impacted by floods.

Mt Larcom Show

Santos is proud to sponsor the Mt Larcom Show, described as “one of the last true agriculture shows in Australia”. The Mount Larcom Show is now in its 77th year and still attracts record breaking crowds from across the region. In 2016 more than 12,000 people attended.

A tribute to true Australian agricultural activities, the show consists of show jumping, stud cattle, show dogs, ute musters, wood chopping, market stalls, sideshow alley, fireworks and the show highlight, the National Chainsaw Racing Titles!

Innamincka Gymkhana & Motorkhana

The tiny township of Innamincka (population around 12) located 100km north-east of Santos’ Moomba processing plant, comes alive for the annual Innamincka Gymkhana and Motorkhana, proudly supported by Santos since 1986. The only community event held in the Cooper Basin in South Australia, the event attracts hundreds of people including tourists and residents from northern South Australia and south-west Queensland. Santos funds are used for promotional materials, insurance, general event requirements. In addition, the event supports the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a key organisation in the local community in which Santos operates.

Darwin Festival

Santos has supported the Darwin Festival since the mid-1990s when the event changed its name from the Bougainvillea Festival and shifted towards the celebration of multicultural aspects of the region. The Santos opening Night is a signature event of the Darwin Festival, the Top End’s major arts and cultural festival, and offers an exciting and diverse program of music from emerging acts and established performances, aimed at attracting a wide cross-section of the community.
