As an Australian company, Santos is committed to working collaboratively with the traditional owners of our land. We support programs that help to improve the lives and prosperity of Indigenous people. These programs help break the cycle of poverty, provide sustainable health, employment or economic benefits, and celebrate and protect cultural heritage.
Since its inception in 2007 the Santos Indigenous Fund (SIF) has invested close to $10 million dollars to support Indigenous employment, training and education initiatives. These include school retention programs, scholarships, apprenticeships, traineeships and cadetships, programs that support and encourage interest in STEM, and employment training programs in disciplines relevant to the energy sector.
Operation Flinders is a world leading wilderness adventure program for young people at risk. The Santos program targets Aboriginal girls from schools in and around Alice Springs and aims to ‘break the cycle’ of disengagement and dysfunction and put teenagers on a more positive pathway.
Since 2010, Santos has been the major sponsor of the Aboriginal Power Cup in conjunction with the Port Adelaide Football Club. The Cup combines high school units with football to encourage South Australian Aboriginal students in years 10-12 to complete their secondary education and move into further education. The Aboriginal Power Cup is one of the longest-running and most successful intervention programs for Aboriginal secondary school students.
