Barossa Gas Project: Learn more

Australian natural gas company Santos will donate $250,000 to Red Cross Timor-Leste to support their emergency response to the devastating floods.

Santos Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Gallagher said Santos is part of the local Timor-Leste community and this donation would help with the immediate response effort to get people to safety, into shelter and out of harm’s way.

“Santos stands with the Timor-Leste community at this extremely difficult time,” Mr Gallagher said.

“There are more than 250 Timorese currently working directly supporting our Bayu-Undan activities onshore and offshore and in our Dili office. Some of our colleagues and their families have had their homes impacted or been affected in other ways by the floods and landslides.

“This $250,000 donation to Red Cross Timor-Leste will provide emergency support for people in refuge centres across Dili including providing shelter, blankets, food and basic medical care.”

Mr Gallagher said Santos would also continue to work with the Timorese Government on how best we can deploy our people and resources to support the response to the floods and the recent COVID outbreak.

“We have a long history of partnership with Timor-Leste as a foundation partner in Bayu-Undan since 2003, and Operator since 2020 and it is important to us that we are there for the Timorese people when they need support.

“Our thoughts are with all the people and communities affected by this devastating natural disaster and Santos stands ready to provide support, through our own people and resources, and through the Red Cross to assist impacted Timor-Leste communities,” Mr Gallagher said.
