DORODILLO 1

Santos Ltd, as Operator for the Murta Block, announces the discovery of a new gas field in the South Australian section of the Cooper / Eromanga Basins. This follows the successful Beeree 1 well in the Queensland section of the Cooper / Eromanga Basins announced last week.

The exploration well, Dorodillo 1 flowed gas at 283,200 cubic metres (10.0 million cubic feet per day) from reservoir sands in the Early Permian Patchawarra Formation over the interval 2485m – 2492m. The test was conducted through a 13mm (0.5) surface choke.

The Dorodillo 1 well is located 2.0 km north east of the Arrakis North 1 gas well and approximately 24 km west south west of Moomba. The well is near existing facilities and will provide an early connection opportunity.

The well has reached a total depth of 2640m where other potential gas reservoir sands will be evaluated by wireline logs.

Commenting on the find Mike Hannell, General Manager of the South Australia Business Unit said This discovery is particularly encouraging because it is a clear demonstration of a commercial gas flow rate from a stratigraphically trapped gas play. This discovery not only provides upside exploration potential in the area but is also close to existing infrastructure which will facilitate early development.

The participants in the Murta Block are:

  • Santos Group 59.75%
  • Delhi Petroleum Pty Ltd 20.21%
  • Boral Energy Resources Ltd 13.19%
  • Gulf (Aust) Resources N.L. 4.75%
  • Basin Oil NL 2.10%
