Santos Gas Discovery In Queensland

Santos Ltd, as Operator for the South West Queensland Unit, today announced that it has discovered a new gas field in the Queensland sector of the Cooper Basin, 138km southwest of the Ballera Gas Facility.

The exploration well, Quasar South 1, has discovered gas in the Permian age Patchawarra Formation.

Santos Managing Director John Ellice-Flint said,

“”This well is the fourth successful exploration well in South West Queensland this year.””

“”The Quasar South 1 discovery is part of the back-to-back drilling campaign in South West Queensland.””

“”The well is the fourth of fourteen wells planned for South West Queensland this year.””

The well flowed gas to surface in four minutes, at a rate of 172,200 cubic metres per day (6.1 million cubic feet per day), through a surface separator, from a reservoir sandstone in the Patchawarra formation over the interval 2312m-2329m. The indicative net pay for the well is 31 metres.

The well is expected to be connected via the Chiron pipeline corridor to the Cooper Basin gas gathering network and will be brought into production as soon as the production licence is awarded (expected within 6 months).
