Barossa Gas Project: Learn more

Santos Ltd, as Operator on behalf of the PPL 90 Joint Venture Parties, announces the discovery of an extension to the Pondrinie Gas Field in the South Australian section of the Cooper/Eromanga Basins.

The gas appraisal well, Pondrinie North 1, flowed gas at 76,460 cubic metres per day (2.7 million cubic feet per day) from reservoir sands in the Early Permian Tirrawarra Sandstone, over the interval 2268 2281m. The test was run through a 13 mm (0.5) surface choke.

The Pondrinie North 1 well is located 4.5 km north northeast of the Pondrinie Gas Field and approximately 85 km northeast of the Moomba Gas Plant.

The well has reached a total depth of 2417m and will be cased and suspended as a future gas producer.

The extension of the Pondrinie gas field follows on from the successful development drilling campaign on the field in 1998. This success is directly attributable to the use of three-dimensional (3D) seismic technology, which facilitates improved identification of sub-surface features.
