MERRIMELIA 37

Santos Ltd, as Operator for the Merrimelia-Innamincka Block, announces a new pool gas discovery in the South Australian sector of the Cooper Basin.

Appraisal well Merrimelia 37 flowed gas at a rate of 216,062 metres per day (6.37 million cubic feet per day) with minor gas liquids from the Late Carboniferous Merrimelia Formation, over the interval 2271-2300 metres. The test was run through a 13mm (0.5″) surface choke. The well was drilled to evaluate the potential of the Merrimelia Formation sequence and is the first well in the field to encounter this gas accumulation.

Commenting on the result, the General Manager – South Australia, Mike Hannell said:

“This is a good flow rate. The results open up a number of opportunities which will be pursued over the next 12 months”.

Merrimelia 37 is located approximately 40km north of the Moomba gas plant.

The well has reached total drilling depth of 2385 metres and will be cased as a future new pool gas producer. The well will be connected to existing facilities.
