Barrolka Field Complex: Coolah 1

BARROLKA FIELD COMPLEX: COOLAH 1

Santos Ltd, as Operator for the Southwest Queensland Unit, announces a gas flow from Coolah 1, a gas exploration well in ATP 259P, Queensland. A gas flow of 58,050 cubic metres per day (2.05 million cubic feet per day) was recorded on an open hole flow test.

The flow test was conducted at a depth of 2586m and tested the open hole section from 2555m to 2586m in the Permian Toolachee Formation. The flow was recorded through a 13mm (1/2) surface choke.

Coolah 1 is located 12 km south east of Barrolka 1 and some 50 km north of the Queensland Gas Centre, Ballera.

Coolah 1 is the sixth well to be drilled to assess the size and deliverability of the Barrolka Field Complex.

Commenting, Rod McArdle, General Manager – Queensland & Northern Territory said:

The results of the successful Barrolka 3 and Beeree 1 wells, announced in October 1996 and July 1997 respectively, suggested a possible resource of several hundred billion cubic feet of gas associated with the Barrolka Field Complex. Coolah 1, which addresses a separate sub-structure, builds on these encouraging results. The Joint Venture will now drill a further sub-structure, Barrolka Northeast, in order to further assess the resource associated with the Barrolka Field Complex.

The participants in the Coolah 1 well are:

  • Santos Group 58.8625%
  • Delhi Petroleum Pty Ltd 23.2%
  • Boral Energy Resources Ltd 16.5%
  • Gulf Australian Hydrocarbons Ltd 1.2%
  • Oil Company of Australia Ltd 0.2375%
