BARROLKA FIELD COMPLEX: BARROLKA NORTH EAST 1

Santos Ltd, as Operator for the South West Queensland Unit, announces a gas flow from Barrolka North East 1, a gas exploration well in ATP 259P, Queensland. A gas flow of 136,200 cubic metres per day (4.81 million cubic feet per day) was recorded on an open hole flow test.

The flow test was conducted at a depth of 2608m and tested the open hole section from 2594m to 2608m in the Permian Toolachee Formation. The flow was recorded through a 13mm (1/2) surface choke.

Barrolka North East-1 is located 6 km north north east of Barrolka East – 1 and some 65km north of the Ballera Gas Centre. It is the seventh well to be drilled to assess the size and deliverability of the Barrolka Field Complex.

The well will be drilled deeper to fully evaluate the Patchawarra section after retrieving the drill string currently stuck in the hole.

Commenting, Rod McArdle, General Manager – Queensland & Northern Territory said:

“The success of the Barrolka North East 1 well, which follows the recent successful Barrolka 3, Beeree 1 and Coolah 1 wells confirms a resource in excess of several hundred billion cubic feet of gas associated with the Barrolka Complex. The Barrolka Complex, although not yet fully evaluated, has the potential to be the largest gas resource discovered in Queensland to date.”
