19 March - Update on Lytton Oil Spill

Santos Limited says cleanup operations continued overnight at the Lytton oil spill east of Brisbane.

A substantial amount of the free oil left on the surface after yesterdays spillage from the Moonie to Brisbane pipeline, has been removed.

We estimate that about 800,000 litres of fluid the bulk of it oil but also containing some water was retrieved by early today from the site to storage facilities, Santos General Manager Northern Australia, Mr Rod Rayner, said this morning.

We are working towards removing the remaining free oil as soon as possible, Mr Rayner said.

Remediation and repair of the pipeline and establishing the cause of the leak, can then commence.

Santos was continuing to work with authorities to restore normal activities in the area.
