Barossa Gas Project: Learn more

Santos was proud to once again support Channel Country Ladies Day, held earlier this month in Windorah, outback Queensland. Wet weather leading into the event certainly didn’t dampen spirits for this popular three-day event, which gives women from remote towns and large pastoral stations an opportunity to relax and take a break from the demands of life in the bush.

The Channel Country Ladies Day was established in 2012 (with Santos sponsoring the event since 2013) to bring women together across a large geographic area to connect and increase their emotional wellbeing. Social isolation is a significant issue for women in the remote western Queensland region, with the day offering attendees a fun and safe environment to openly share their emotions and access women’s health services, all whilst forming new friendships through enjoying creative arts.

The Channel Country Ladies Day is now an annual event for women from sheep and beef properties and towns across the Queensland Channel Country, along with those in agricultural, health, arts and corporate sectors. The day aims to inspire and empower women to develop their leadership skills and increase their personal awareness.

Each year a unique canvas is created by artist in residence Lyn Barnes, where every participant is invited to paint themselves into the landscape over the course of the weekend. The result was a beautiful and sentimental piece of art for all of the ladies who attended.

This painting was auctioned with half the proceeds donated to RFDS, which at this year’s event sold for $19,000.

Well done to everyone involved, it was a fantastic event!
