Project overview
The Santos GLNG project is a pioneering project to convert coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) for export to global markets.
The Santos GLNG project involves:
- The development of CSG resources in the Bowen and Surat Basins in south-east Queensland;
- Construction of the 420-kilometre gas transmission pipeline from the gas fields to Gladstone; and
- Construction of a 7.8 mtpa two-train LNG plant, located on Curtis Island, Gladstone, and associated port development infrastructure
The project has binding LNG offtake agreements with KOGAS and PETRONAS for 7.0 mtpa in aggregate for 20 years
The estimated gross capital cost of the project is approximately US$16 billion (including US$2 billion in contingencies) from the final investment decision until the end of 2015, when the second LNG train is expected to be ready for start-up.
The Santos GLNG project has entered into partnerships with world-class contractors; including
- Fluor Corporation – upstream surface facilities (all CSG, water gathering and processing infrastructure)
- Saipem – 420-kilometre gas transmission pipeline
- Bechtel Corporation – LNG plant plus associated infrastructure
Current status
