Santos GLNG New Sponsor of Queensland’s Biggest Bike Ride

22 May 2012

Santos GLNG is saddling up as the Principal Sponsor of Queensland’s biggest bike ride - the newly-named Santos GLNG Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge.

More than 10,000 cyclists are expected to take part in the 100km ride, organised by Bicycle Queensland.

Bicycle Queensland Manager, Ben Wilson, said he was pleased to have Santos GLNG on board for the ride.

“Santos is already identified in the international cycling community with the Santos Tour Down Under, so the fit of Santos GLNG beside Queensland’s biggest bike ride is snug,” he said.

“Bicycle Queensland has long been impressed by their involvement in the cycling community and commitment to encouraging staff in Queensland to cycle.”
President Santos GLNG Mark Macfarlane said he was proud to be partnering with Bicycle Queensland to sponsor the Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge.

“We are pleased to support this event as part of a large portfolio of arts and community partnerships,” Mr. Macfarlane said.

“We have a high percentage of our team who are heavily involved in the cycling community and I look forward to their participation on 7 October.

“Our team enjoys a challenge. We’re bringing together people and technology on a size and scale never seen before to deliver the Santos GLNG Project.”

Now in its eighth year, the event aims to get people cycling and raise valuable funds for Diabetes Queensland and the Heart Foundation.

The Santos GLNG Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge is on Sunday 7 October and entries open on 18 June.

  1. I love cycling and I'm a Bicycle Queensland member. Unfortunately I don't appreciate this year's choice of sponsor. Oil and gas companies are just not part of my cycling ethos. It's a shame that BQ are so starved for funding that they have no choice but to accept hand outs from an organisation that needs to buy a better public image.
