Santos and TAFE SA launched a new skills-based training centre at TAFE SA’s O’Halloran Hill Campus.
Using refurbished Santos equipment decommissioned from the Cooper Basin, the new facility enables Santos employees, apprentices and members of the public to receive skills-based training on mechanical and electrical equipment unique to the oil and gas production industry.
An innovative, five-day training program has also been developed to increase the efficiency and productivity of Santos’ Cooper Basin operations by cross-skilling personnel.
Developed in close collaboration with TAFE SA and aligned with national qualifications as well as Santos’ safety vision, the course is designed to help Santos production operators with specific mechanical and electrical competency to carry out repairs in isolated work locations safely and efficiently. The first round of Cooper Basin production operators commenced their five-day training on 16 April.
The centre was officially launched on Thursday, 19 April 2012 by Dennis Vail, Santos EABU Manager Operations Strategy and Raymond Garrand, Chief Executive of the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology.
In his address, Dennis provided Bill Leonard of the EABU Operations Training and Development team with well-deserved recognition for all of his efforts in the customisation of design and delivery of this innovative new training resource.
