Free to the public, the annual open-air concert in Elder Park is the ASO’s largest annual performance and has become an iconic fixture on Adelaide’s arts calendar. Santos has been a Principal Partner of the ASO for the past 14 years, making this one of our longest-standing community partnerships.
Concertgoers began gathering on the banks of the Torrens in the late afternoon. The sizeable audience included about 100 Santos corporate guests.
As the sun set and temperatures dropped to more comfortable levels, dozens of Santos volunteers and their families handed out 20,000 glowsticks to add even more colour to the performance.
Featuring Conductor Marc Taddei, Soprano Antoinette Halloran and well-known radio presenter Christopher Lawrence, the program included a spirited selection of classical and contemporary pieces culminating in a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with fireworks display.
Thanks to all the staff and volunteers who helped make this such a memorable evening, and a special salute to the real stars of the night – the ASO’s gifted musicians – for shining through despite the heat.
