The Santos Conservation Centre will be established as part of the new entrance to the Adelaide Zoo, backed by a $2 million contribution from Santos.
The centre will feature an exhibition space and theatre, will be freely accessible by the public, and will present issues and activities that raise community awareness of nature conservation.
It will house semi-permanent and rotating exhibitions, featuring local community conservation work, the evolution of zoos from menageries to potent conservation organisations, connections with ecology and water, mutli-cultural expositions, music, art, drama and other workshops that link to nature.
The zoo’s new entrance will be located in the parklands close to the River Torrens, facing Botanic Park, creating a strong connection between the zoo and nature.
The Santos Conservation Centre is one of six new initiatives that make up the company’s South Australian Community Fund.
