Santos has a three-year agreement as foundation sponsor of Gunnedah’s Annual Porchetta Day. The event aims to replicate the traditional, family-centred Italian village celebration of the land and the riches it brings.
For Santos, sustainability is a way of doing business that improves outcomes for employees, shareholders, business partners and the communities in which we operate. The Annual Porchetta Day complements these values and aspirations.
“Energy security and food security are inextricably linked. By ensuring both lower carbon emissions and clean future energy security, Santos plans to help maintain Australia’s traditional competitive advantages in the areas of agribusiness and energy,” said Sam Crafter, Principal Advisor, Public Affairs.
“Santos’ coal seam gas projects have an important contribution to make to financially viable future food production in Australia.
“Gas-fired electricity generation enables reliable base load power generation, which is essential for agribusiness and associated supply and distribution chains. It also supports the reliable integration of intermittent renewables – such as wind – into base load power supplies.”
“Increasing global competition for land, water and energy resources means that multiple uses of land are the most logical response to increased demands for food and energy. This is particularly true when both can be provided from the same land. Santos’ operations in Eastern Queensland and the Cooper Basin have shown for a number of decades that agriculture and gas extraction can partner successfully,” he said.
During 2009, Santos also sponsored Wean Races, the Jewel on the Newell Science Week and Gunnedah Special Support Services.
