Andre Greipel won the Down Under Classic and Rebecca Werner claimed round one of the Santos Women’s Cup in the curtain raisers to the Santos Tour Down Under.

Over 112,000 fans were treated to an afternoon and evening of great racing Sunday in Adelaide’s East End as some of the world’s top men and women riders took to the streets.

In the Down Under Classic, two-time Santos Tour Down Under winner Andre Griepel (Lotto-Belisol) out-sprinted Norway's Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) and Australian Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Barracuda) to win the 51km (30-lap) circuit race in 1hr:03min:16sec.

Earlier in the afternoon Rebecca Werner triumphed over a powerful field of women riders in the first round of the 2012 Santos Women's Cup. Sponsored by Santos and organised by Cycling SA, the Santos Women’s Cup will run through the week with round two taking place in Prospect on Monday.
