Guernsey auction raises funds for Aboriginal health

06 Oct 2011

Students playing in the 2011 Aboriginal Power Cup.

Santos employees raised more than $1,200 for Slight For All, an organisation that works with Aboriginal communities to treat preventable eye diseases, through an internal eBay-style auction of guernseys worn by participants in the Santos-sponsored Aboriginal Power Cup.

The colourful guernseys were designed by students participating in the Aboriginal Power Cup, which aims to encourage Aboriginal students from city and regional locations to achieve set benchmarks in personal development, academic excellence and football. The three-term program culminates with a major football carnival at Alberton Oval in June each year. The four football teams (two boys teams and two girls teams) with the best overall achievement play off for the Aboriginal Power Cup at AMMI Stadium as the curtain-raiser event to the Power AFL game.

The auction site saw some strong bidding, with some staff setting their alarm clocks so they could put in a late night bid before the auction closed at midnight.

Many thanks to all who participated.  And special thanks to those who secured a guernsey.
