Santos Apprentice of the Year Awards 2010

26 Nov 2010

Santos’ outstanding apprentices were recognised last night at the Apprentice of the Year Awards ceremony at the Santos Centre in Adelaide.

This was the first year that participants from Santos eastern Queensland operations at Roma and Fairview were part of the apprentice program.

During the week leading up to the ceremony, the group took time away from their technical development to focus on broader personal and career development. Kevin Judge, Manager Moomba Gas Plant, shared his professional journey in leadership, challenge and team development. Matthew Primus, former captain and now coach of AFL club Port Adelaide, spent time with the group addressing issues of work ethics, team work, performance, delivery and goal-setting.

The awards ceremony allowed apprentices and trainees, their families, Santos’ apprentice providers Statewide Group Training and Golden West Employment Solutions, site leaders and mentors to come together and celebrate the efforts and achievements of all involved in the program.

Congratulations to the three individual award winners:

Outstanding scholar: Matthew Williamson, fourth-year electrical, Roma. Matthew is now moving into training in his second trade – instrumentation.

Best team player: Chris Ferrall , fourth-year mechanical, Moomba. Chris officially comes on board the Santos team in January as a permanent tradesperson in the Moomba plant.

Santos Apprentice of the Year: Sean Lamont,second-year communications. Sean is completing his third trade in communications with the Information Services group at Ballera.

Eastern Australia’s General Manager Development, Colin Cruickshank, and General Manager Plant Operations and Reliability, Nick Lagonik, congratulated the entire group on their commitment and dedication to learning.

Special mention was made of Santos’ indigenous trainee program, welcoming participants from Roma, Port Bonython and Port Adelaide. Nick and Colin also praised the efforts of site-based mentors whose commitment to sharing their expertise and knowledge is critical to successful apprentice and trainee development.
